Are you running it on a Pre-Intel P35 chipset? I heard people had the most issues with motherboards older than 2007. My motherboard uses the 955 chip and I haven't touched Vista for fear of performance issues.

LOL   I'm still afraid of Vista...  I've read some negative things about 7, but comparison to Vista puts it in better shape.  I'll probably keep my distance from it for a while.

I put it on my Toshiba laptop. Not sure which intel chipset it is running.

So far it seems better.
Plus, they moved on to DirectX 11.
We'll see how it plays W@W tonight.

have read of 7 being tons better than vista and that for 7 MS actually listened to all the problems ppl had with vista, heard it uses less to run than what vista does

tbh i have had no problems with vista since i got it, but also have read that most that have problems with vista is cause not having enough to run vista , but i dunno

For 60-70% of PC owners, their systems are 3-5 years old, if not more. Vista was designed to take full effect of the dual core chipsets and DDR-3 memory that was coming out that same year. So what they hope for was by making Vista a performance hog people would have no choice but to buy new machines and MS would get more sales for upgrades and license fees. Didn't happen and they lost confidence from a majority of PC users. So now Windows 7 is there way of making up with the PC crowd. I hope so. I mean, Apple doesn't create obsolete machines for people when they upgrade their OS.

I'm no fan of M$, but I can't tell you how much I hate Apple.  I used to like using Mac back in the day, but have always wondered how a company can afford to sell their stuff for 4x the cost of everyone else AND make it completely proprietary.

Seriously, even with Apple's big advertising budget in recent years, the SBD of competition is Open Source (Linux).  The trend of Linux-based OSes has been on the rise steadily.  And you can pretty much watch Mozilla for how that trend will eventually take hold.  Firefox, according to trendnetworks, has taken 20% of the browser market-share since October.  Seems more and more people are becoming impressed with the scalability of software designed by a collective rather than a single company.  Eventually this will take hold in the OS world as well.

Only thing I'm waiting for, personally, is for game developers to start seeing the light as well.  As soon as I see that the games I enjoy playing are released for Linux at the same time or before Windows, I'll be off to Linux world permanently.

I'll find out tonight...  installed 7 today.  Figure by the time the beta is done, I'll be on my new system, anyway.  ;)
