Well, here's my input after a few days...

(I never used Vista, so bear with me if this sounds like something old)

  • I enjoy the new themes...  pretty sleek.  Overall, system feels much nicer because of it.
  • Am finding it hard to find system-related utilities.  Seems like I have to jump through hoops to get at anything I want to be able to tweak or fix.
  • Gadgets are nice, but no actual sidebar as I understand Vista had...  it's more like a dockable system.  Selection of gadgets, btw, sucks.
COD:
  • Game performance is actually better than XP.  Figured I might see some decline, but it's pretty good.  I'm running a higher resolution now and enjoying it.
  • Occasionally I start up with a massive collage of colors.  Wait 30 - 60 seconds, it refreshes and fixes itself.  Very weird.
  • Some textures now have these rainbow-like colors to them.  Not sure if that was a fluke, but never saw that before.

Overall, I'm enjoying it more than XP.  Think it's still got that new-car smell.  I'd really like to get more under the hood to see how things work, but haven't had much time yet.  ;)

Looks like they are fixing the old system issue. Well done. I wonder if the lay offs will slow the production of this?

I've been running Windows7 since Gene first mentioned it. I'm using the 64bit version and it is fast and stable for me so far.

I had random lockups and crashes in Vista on my gaming rig before. I haven't experienced a single problem with Windows 7.

Now that I'm building a new rig, it will have Windows 7 64 on it too.

Not sure what it is, but that colors thing...  well, I still get it, but not all the time.  Seems if my system is being taxed pretty good, textures will start showing odd colors to them (rainbow and quite trippy).  Didn't have this issue with XP.  And the video restart issue is still there (30 seconds or less after joining the server for the first map only), but now it seems there's a limit to how many maps I can play before it becomes a more prominent issue (actually requiring a vid_restart command issued into the console).
