Don't tell my wife!
« on: February 07, 2009, 07:13:53 AM »
I know I just built a new rig a few months ago (GTX260, X2 6000, 4GB ram) but I pulled the trigger on a new and improved rig last night :)

I have some plans for the other system so I did need some new components so I figured what the hell, might as well upgrade again.

And it is a big upgrade... I got the new intel core I7 processor 920, and 6GB of matching ram. I also got a triple-channel motherboard for it and the new GTX 295 (dual GPU) video card. Oh, and a 24" LCD.

This is the most I've spent on parts since 1999. The motherboard alone was $239. I haven't spent anything more than about $85 on a mobo in about 10 years.

I'm also going to try to fit all of this into a micro atx case - the mobo is matx.

And I'll be going with Windows7 64 bit too.

Hopefully I'll have all of the parts and everything together by Thursday.

LOL, if I wasn't starting the new job Monday, I'd say let's have a PC-building party!

Cool - I saw that you were building but I didn't see what. What are you building?

Intel Q9550 with 8Gigs (4x2g) RAM, EVGA's GTX 260 Super-clocked and a new Velociraptor 10k RPM.

Not a cutting edge machine by any means, but pretty good for my budget.  All the core components for the machine should be here by Tuesday, but shipping with UPS isn't like FedEX was back in the day (used to get parts practically overnighted to me from Newegg's CA location).  It's funny, because the wife wanted Wii Fit along with her new monitor (she gets my Dell when I'm done with it  LOL).  Both of those things are coming from NJ and if UPS was open today I'd have it already.

Nice! Windows 7 should like that too.
