ATI HD 4870 HDMI connections
« on: September 10, 2009, 11:18:45 AM »
This card is in my home-theater pc.  The card has two DVI outs.  The card came with an HDMI adapter that actually allows me to use the DVI out to carry video and sound, which I am doing.

Now I want to be able to use both DVI outs to connect the computer via HDMI to two TVs (which will necessarily be in clone mode).  I have two ATI-provided DVI-HDMI adapters, so the connections should be working.

I problem is that I can get video to both but only one gets sound.  I can't figure it out.  I've been searching the web without luck.

Any ideas?  I'm close to just getting a HDMI 1.3 splitter, but they're very spendy.

Old, I know, but did you ever get this figured out, Gren?

If you haven't tried yet, Windows 7 has some awesome media center improvements. Web TV is built into it so you can view Hulu etc on it as well as live broadcasts.

I determined that sound will only go through one of the two DVI outlets.  It's a software issue, I think.  My solution was to get an hdmi switch.

Ahhh. My basement HTPC has been used only as a server lately because I can't get the digital sound to work in Windows 7. Analog works fine but is of no use to me. I'm hoping the final release will address that (or I can find a better driver now).

My digital sound works fine.  I think ATI has been pretty good about updating drivers for 7; or are you Nvidia?
