transfering games.
« on: January 02, 2010, 07:34:32 AM »
Quick question. Can I transfer games from one computer to another over a network?
I have transfered pics and music so far without a problem. I would rather do this then installing and patching all my old games. If I can do I just share forlders and then copy to the new computer?

Thing with most games is that you have to install it because the installer will register different components with Windows.  I think you can copy anything Steam-installed, though.  I remember doing this before.  I think you just need to verify the games after copying them.

For Steam just download Steam client on the other PC and login and you still have access to all your games on that account.

My point being that if you want to skip the download and you have save files or whatever, copying the games from the steam install folder should work.  It did for me in the past, anyhow.
